BATALHA MONASTERY
The Batalha Monastery, also known as the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, is a stunning Gothic-style monastery located in the town of Batalha in central Portugal, about 120 kilometers north of Lisbon. The monastery was built in the 14th and 15th centuries and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Batalha Monastery is known for its intricate architecture, beautiful stained-glass windows, and rich history. The monastery was built to commemorate the victory of the Portuguese army over the Castilians at the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385. The monastery took over a century to complete and was built in several different styles, including Gothic, Manueline, and Renaissance.
